We went ahead and got passports because we needed them for the kids either way and I get questioned enough at the border as it is. I usually cross without my husband but with the two kids. The border guards always make me show proof I'm not leaving the country with our children behind my husband's back. I get a giggle out of it but it IS a good thing. I just wish the passports were good for more than 5 years because they're pretty expensive!Danielle-Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00174861938011241438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-326781648220704566.post-91938738789691911132012-03-09T11:16:18.540-08:002012-03-09T11:16:18.540-08:00I never left the country prior to my honeymoon. A...I never left the country prior to my honeymoon. At that time we took a cruise to Mexico & they allowed me to use my birth certificate, but they warned me that would be changing soon & I would HAVE to use a passport in the near future. We later crossed the border to Mexico (I'm a couple of hours away from Tijuana) a few times & I was still allowed to use my birth certificate. And we also took a cruise to Ensenada, Mexico with our church for our third anniversary & I still was able to use my birth certificate.

I honestly don't know how they allow you to use a birth certificate. There's no photo involved & especially as a woman, since my last name doesn't even match.

We had planned to return to Tijuana after Lil J was born, so I got passports for both me & J (hubby already had an international passport), but I can't remember what they are called. They were cheaper than the international one, but I am only allowed to use them travelling to Mexico or Canada & it can only be by car or boat, not by plane.

Of course after I got them things started changing in TJ & it's pretty dangerous so we haven't returned as of yet. I sure do like going though, it's a lot of fun. I love to visit this little market & to buy medications. It's funny because in some ways it really does feel like a totally different world & then in some ways it still totally feels like the states. Hopefully we'll be able to return someday. I would love for Lil J to be able to see where his daddy grew up.Frau Guten Taghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16653229285252138595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-326781648220704566.post-71628339059718677222012-03-09T10:50:00.127-08:002012-03-09T10:50:00.127-08:00I have an international passport but it doesn'...I have an international passport but it doesn't get much use :( I travel from here in Canada to the United States quite frequently (I'm an hour away from the border) but that's it. I've never been outside of Canada and the USA. I'd really love to see all of the places you listed here too, with Italy going right to the top of the list.Danielle-Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00174861938011241438noreply@blogger.com
